THE AUDIENCE OF THESSALONIKI SHOWN A BIG INTERESSE IN PANDORA’S BOX

The audience of the 49th edition of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival(TIFF) shown a big interesse in "Pandora’s Box" screened in "Balkan Survey" section. Iranian director Abdolreza Kahani’s film "Over There" has been awarded as Best Feature Film by The Grand Jury: Michael Ondaatje, Writer (Canada)President, Yeşim Ustaoğlu, Director (Turkey), Lita Stantic, Producer (Argentina), Émilie Dequenne, Actress (Belgium), David Robinson, Film critic (UK), Dionissis Savopoulos, Composer (Greece) and Diablo Cody, Screenwriter (USA).

Tsilla Chelton has won the best actress prize for her role "Nusret " in "Pandora's Box " at the international competitive section of The 28th Edition of Amiens International Film Festival which took place between 7th and 16th of November.

"PANDORA’S BOX" HAS BEEN THE OPENING FILM OF THE FESTIVAL ON WHEELS IN KARS –TURKEY
Pandora’s Box has been the opening film of the 14th edition of the Festival on Wheels in Kars –Turkey. Director Yesim Ustaoglu, together with succesfully achieved actresses of the film, Derya Alabora (Nesrin), Övül Avkiran (Güzin), Ustaoglu Film Productions’ producers Serkan Çakarer and Muhammet Çakiral also attended the festival.

ATTENDANCE AT IFFR 2009 -ROTTERDAM
Yesim Ustaoglu is going to be one of the jury members for the VPRO Tiger Award Competition at the 38th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The festival takes place between 21st of January and 1st of February, 2009. Jury members will determine the winners of the Tiger Award competition.

The IFFR focuses on independent and innovative cinema, and reflects on the current and future states of cinema, the VPRO Tiger Awards Competition presents unknown filmmakers. Or rather: Each year the festival selects fifteen début or second feature films, from which an international jury then picks three winners. The three winners each receive an Award and a cheque of fifteen thousand Euros.

For emerging directors the Tiger Awards Competition can open doors to other festivals and financiers for subsequent projects. Winning filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan (Following), and Hong Sang-Soo (The day a pig fell into the well), Ilya Khrzhanovsky (4), Juan Pablo Rebella & Pablo Stoll (25 Watts), Zhang Yuan (Sons) and Kelly Reichardt (Old Joy) have gone on to achieve critical acclaim and worldwide success.

ATTENDANCE AT 2009 SUNDANCE/NHK INTERNATIONAL FILM MAKERS JURY
Yesim Ustaoglu is going to be part of an International Jury which will help select the recipients of the 2009 Sundance/NHK International Filmmakers Award. Created in 1996, the Award is presented annually to four independent filmmakers from different global regions: Latin America, Europe, the United States and Japan. In addition to recognizing the next generation of visionary filmmakers, the Award provides winners with financing, a guarantee by their partners at NHK to purchase Japanese television broadcast rights, and strategic and creative mentorship throughout the life of the project.

Now in its thirteenth year, the Sundance/ NHK International Filmmakers Award supports exciting new voices in international cinema. Past recipients include: Walter Salles ( Central Station), Chris Eyre (Smoke Signals), Rodrigo Garcia (Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her), Lucrecia Martel ( La Ciénaga, Yesim Ustaoglu (Waiting For the Clouds) and more recently, Andrucha Waddington (House of Sand), Sebastian Cordero (Cronicas), Miranda July ( Me and You and Everyone We Know) and Juan Pablo Rebella & Pablo Stoll (Whisky). Past International Jury members include: Wim Wenders, Hector Babenco, Alfonso Cuarón, Frank Pierson, Mike Newell, Guillermo del Toro, Nicole Holofcener and Hossein Amini.

ATTENDANCE TO THE 9th NHK ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL
Yesim Ustaoglu and Onur Ünsal, the main actor of "Pandora’s Box" have been attending, as honorary guests to the 9th NHK Asian Film Festival in Tokyo. Screening of "Pandora’s Box" took place between 2th and 5th November at the festival. Furthermore, the film will also be screened on famous Japan television NHK.

Yesim Ustaoglu’s new film, Pandora’nın Kutusu (Pandora’s Box), has won the Golden Shell for the Best Film at the 56th edition of San Sebastian Film Festival. Pandora’s Box lead, Tsilla Chelton, also has won the best actress prize.

British film director Michael Winterbottom was awarded with the silver shell for the best director with his film Genova while Samira Makhmalbaf’s Iranian–French co–production Two Legged Horse bringing her the special jury prize. Oscar Martinez has won the best actor prize for his role in Daniel Burman’s Argentinian–French–Spanish co–production El Nido Vacio

CineLink, the industry section of the Sarajevo Film Festival, announced its awards for the best projects pitched in the southeastern Europe co –production market. The EAVE scholarship went to Serkan Cakarer, producer of the Ustaoglu Film ’s project Broken Mussels, from director Seyeftin Tokmak. Broken Mussels received the ARTE Sarajevo Film Festival award.

Pandora ’s Box, will be one of the 14 titles vying for the prestigious Golden Shell award at this year ’s San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain. Other competition titles are Genova by Michael Winterbottom, Two Legged Horse by Samira Makmalbaf, Still Walking by Hirokazu Kore-eda and Camino by Javier Fesser.
Jonathan Demme, winner of an Oscar for best director for The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and director of films including Something Wild (1986), Philadelphia (1993), The Manchurian Candidate (2004) and Neil Young: Heart of Gold (2006) will chair the Official Jury.
